Rating 85

These days, not only are flat panel displays able to tilt, swivel, pivot, and shift in all different directions for the best possible view, but they are also coming down in price. Samsung's model, a 15-inch flat panel, is priced at only $500. While the price is low, the quality of the display does not suffer. The display has color, contrast and brightness, and distinct text. The 570v offers a 1024 by 768 resolution and is compatible with USB through an optional hub. The USB hub includes four downstream ports and one upstream port allowing up to 127 USB peripherals to be connected to the PC through the monitor. Samsung offers a three-year parts, labor, and backlight warranty.

Since the monitor is an entry-level flat panel for those dabbling in LCD technology, the display does not incorporate newer features such as digital interfaces. It produces clear and sharp images and has easy to use menu options that help users manually tweak images. The menu option also includes an automatic adjustment feature for novices who are looking for the best possible image and color, but are skeptical about fine-tuning the monitor themselves.

The Samsung 570v performed well in this review and is capable of handling typical business applications. Although flat panel displays are not the first choice for demanding graphics professionals, most office users will find that the benefits of this model far outweigh the limitations.
