While Apple's iOS boasts a more stringent approach to security, the Android operating system has some catching up to do. Will the next version -- dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich -- sweeten mobile security?

When it comes to mobile operating systems, Apple's iOS clearly takes the lead in terms of smartphone security. Its stringent policies leave the Android OS trailing in its wake. Carl Weinschenk discusses the issues involved as Google works to improve the Android security, including the new version of the operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, which could appear as early as October.


Many surprising things have happened in the world of telecommunications and IT during the past few years. High on the list are three well-documented and ongoing trends: the rise of smartphones and tablets in the enterprise, the popularity of Google’s Android and the consumerization of IT.
