Intuit Helps SMBs Lead the Charge

Small business owners who up until now couldn't afford to offer credit card processing might want to take a look at Intuit's new Credit Card Processing Kit.

In an ongoing effort to simplify its line of products for small businesses, Intuit has announced a credit card processing package aimed at companies that handle less than $5,000 worth of credit card transactions per month.

Intuit designed the Credit Card Processing Kit, which sells for $39.95, for companies that don't need a full-blown accounting package or merchant account service. The company says its new kit offers an alternative to multi-featured products that go far beyond what smaller businesses need, and which often result in expensive setup costs, high monthly fees, a minimum number of transactions or flat-out losing business from customers who want to pay with a credit card.

In a public statement, Intuit said that the Credit Card Processing Kit focuses on ease-of-use, affordability and quick setup — areas Intuit calls "essential credit card processing requirements" for such small businesses. The kit is part of Intuit's line of Right for Me products and services, which means that you can use it as a stand-alone product or you can use it in conjunction with QuickBooks financial software. Intuit said this gives small businesses more flexibility.

The company also said that the kit lets business owners use their Internet-connected computers as credit card terminals. Other features include:

  • No set up fees
  • No monthly minimum payments
  • Monthly fee: $14.95
  • No terminals to lease/purchase
  • No long-term contracts or commitments

The kit contains the materials necessary for processing transactions with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Diners Club/Carte Blanche and JCB cards.

According to the Web site, the software also lets you bill customers regularly, track payments and create customized estimates and invoices.

You can find the QuickBooks Credit Card Processing Kit at retail stores including Office Depot, OfficeMax, CompUSA, Staples, Fry's, Best Buy for Business, Amazon.com and Samsclub.com
